Netanyahu Addresses UN General Assembly, Congress on Gaza War

Prime Minister Seeks Support for Military Campaign

Protests Greet Netanyahu's Speeches

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has addressed both the United Nations General Assembly and the United States Congress in an effort to garner support for Israel's ongoing military campaign in the Gaza Strip. However, his speeches have been met with protests from some lawmakers and members of the public, who oppose the war.

In his address to the UN General Assembly on September 22, 2023, Netanyahu argued that Israel's actions in Gaza were justified and necessary to protect its citizens from rocket attacks by Hamas militants.

Netanyahu's speech to a joint session of Congress on July 25, 2024, was also largely focused on the Gaza war. He defended Israel's right to self-defense and accused Hamas of using civilians as human shields.

Netanyahu's speeches have been met with mixed reactions. Some lawmakers and members of the public support Israel's actions in Gaza, while others have condemned the war as disproportionate and indiscriminate.
