India Condemns Terrorist Attacks in Israel
Prime Minister Modi Expresses Solidarity
New Delhi, October 7, 2023
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed his shock and condemnation of the terrorist attacks in Israel.
"Deeply shocked by the news of terrorist attacks in Israel," Modi tweeted. "We stand in solidarity with Israel at this difficult hour."
Modi's comments signal a shift in India's stance on the Israel-Gaza conflict. In the past, India has maintained a neutral position, calling for both sides to exercise restraint.
However, in recent months, India has moved closer to Israel, signing a number of defense and economic agreements. This shift has been driven by India's concerns about terrorism and its desire to counter the growing influence of China in the region.
Another state minister from Modi's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) warned in a tweet that India "will not tolerate terrorism in any form."
The latest tweets from Prime Minister Modi are a clear indication that India is now firmly on the side of Israel in the conflict with Gaza.
